Details level 2

TID has set up a 6-day training session. This training is based on the TID capacity building programme for cutter operators.

Aim/Target group:

This course aims at training for dredge operators with experience in dredging. The main objective of the training is to improve the knowledge and skills of the operator and is strongly focussed on efficient operation of the dredger and an in depth understanding of the dredging processes. After the training the dredge operator will be able to operate the dredger in the most efficient and effective way and as a consequence risk and costs will be highly reduced.

Blended Learning & Simulator Training:

The programme consists of a series of parallel sessions of simulator training on one hand side and lectures, workshops on the other.

Subjects are:

  • Site constraints and soil characteristics and their relation to dredging.
  • Cutter theory.
  • Advanced cutter operations.
    • Breaking in
    • Layer dredging
    • Slope dredging
  • Dredging installation and maintenance.
  • Pumps and slurry transportation.
  • Operational aspects.

All these subjects will be trained by simulator exercises, workshops and training video. Acquired knowledge will be practiced on the simulator and is related to daily operation.

The trainees gain an insight into dredging theories and will be able to deal with a variety of dredging processes under different dredging conditions. Furthermore, experienced crew members will highly improve their skills which results in efficient dredging and higher production.

Intensive Training:

To ensure maximum attention and maximum simulator time for each participant a parallel programme has been set up. With this very intensive programme all participants get thorough practical instruction on the simulator and interactive instruction during classroom training and workshops.

Simulator:

The main part of the training will take place by the use of a new generation extremely realistic cutter simulator. This simulator gives the possibility to train participants under specific conditions and enables trainers to give feedback on specific results and effects. Hazardous situations can be experienced without danger, risk or loss of production.
