Slurry Transport in Dredging and Wet Mining

Pumping slurry is a complex and important process. In this advanced, 4 day, training emphasis is put on the hydraulic transport of solids-water mixtures with centrifugal pumps and through pipeline systems on a detailed level. During the training all main aspects of pumps and slurry transport and their relation to dredging operations and production calculations in practice are covered.

Objective

After this training the participants are able to explain the physical processes involved in hydraulic slurry transport and perform basic calculations.

Training programme
The duration of the training is 4 days. Each day will zoom in on different aspects of the pump and slurry process phenomena like:

  • Dredge pumps characteristics
  • Drive characteristics
  • Dynamic effects of pump and drives
  • Pipeline systems characteristics
  • Interaction between pump, drive and pipeline
  • Influence of solid particles on the pump and slurry processes
  • Dynamic effects in the pump - pipeline systems

Training set-up
This training is highly practical and case driven. Practical problems are used to transfer the theoretical backgroud of the pump and slurry transport processes.
Cases are used to better process the presented knowledge and to improve problem solving skills . This will enahce the learning process and will
guarantee that the participants can transfer this knowledge to practical daily work situations.

Possible cases are:

  • Changing the drive in an existing system
  • Changing the pump witin an existing system
  • Changing system lay-out
  • Etc.
